Press Release 8 April 2010
Din l-Art Helwa is pleased to note that the Malta Environment and Planning Authority has today refused 13 applications for the sanctioning of illegal structures at Dwejra. ‘This is a step in the right direction’ commented the NGO, ‘and in line with the ongoing Mepa reform which recognizes the urgent need to put an end to the sanctioning of illegal developments.’
Din l-Art Helwa hopes that these decisions will be followed up swiftly with enforcement action, and that the remaining four applications will also be refused.
Din l-Art Helwa has repeatedly called for good governance at Mepa and has always maintained that the success of the reform will largely depend on the final decisions taken at board level.
