A new booklet entitled “Mqabba – Four Walks in a Charming Village” has just been published by Din l-Art Helwa and is part of the series of illustrated booklets covering historic trails around Malta’s ancient towns and rural villages. This publication was made possible with the collaboration of the Mqabba local council. Authored by Anthony Bonello, Executive Secretary of the Mqabba Council, the project was coordinated by Victor Rizzo, Hon. Treasurer and Council Member of Din l-Art Helwa and was made possible through the sponsorship of Global Capital and BestPrint. The book gives the reader an introduction to the village of Mqabba, a description of the natural resources which made this village famous and gave it its trade, its abundant globigerina limestone and its quarries. The four walks described in the book start from Mqabba’s Church Square. Two walks take the reader to the medieval villages of Hal Millieri and Hal Xluq with their charming chapels and rural landscape. The other two walks lead through the operating and exhausted quarries in the areas known as ta’ l-Isqof, and tar-Robba. The reader will be able to enjoy various chapels, farmhouses, statues and corner niches that are featured along the way. Other notable landmarks in this charming village are the catacombs of tal-Mentna. The book costs euro 2.50 and can be purchased from Din l-Art Helwa, 133 Melita Street, Valletta. Other booklets in the series feature walks in the localities of Birgu and Birzebbugia.
