LECTURE ON THE 1936 – 1939 MALTA ARCHITECTURAL AWARDS

Professor George Camilleri will be presenting a lecture, organised by Din l-Art Helwa, on Thursday 11th November focusing on the Architectural Awards for architectural excellence in Malta conferred between 1936 to 1939. Professor Camilleri’s interest in the subject was born whilst helping as a volunteer to catalogue the Gollcher Archives at Palazzo Falson, when he came across an invitation from Sir Harry Luke to Chevalier Olaf Gollcher inviting him to sit on the jury of a forthcoming Architecture Award, an initiative established to encourage excellence in Maltese architecture. The presentation focuses on buildings constructed during the pre war period and its story provides an interesting insight into the buildings and personalities of that period. The lecture will be held at 133 Melita Street and commences at 6 p.m. Anyone interested in attending is kindly asked to be seated by 5.45 pm. Entrance is free of charge, however donations to Din l-Art Helwa’s restoration fund will be greatly appreciated.
