This lecture introduces the illuminated book by discussing the types of illumination in a book and how they are organised. Examples used to illustrate the session will be taken from Medieval and Renaissance illuminated books found in Maltese collections most of which are inaccessible to the public.
Martina Caruana holds a PhD in History of Art from the Sorbonne (Paris IV) and currently occupies the position of Senior Lecturer within MCAST’s Institute for the Creative Arts. She is specialised in illuminated books in Malta, and has lectured and published on the subject.
