ABOUT THE ARTIST
Ian Camilleri, a civil/structural engineering consultant and business management consultant by profession, retired in 2013 after a 40 year career in England, Australia and Malta. Ian served ten years as Council member of Din l-Art Helwa since 2005 including a short spell as Secretary General of DLH. He remains a keen volunteer and supporter of DLH.
Ian was always interested in sketching and more recently he became interested in painting using various mediums amongst others oil pastels, charcoal, ink, pencil pastels, and watercolour. The latter being his preferred medium but he also enjoys exploring combinations of different mediums. His work includes landscapes and streetscapes incorporating the built and natural heritage. His underwater paintings capture marine life on abstract backgrounds. His still life paintings include a detailed Study of work by Donna Van Leer and the Poppy. Studies of the work by Monet taught him a sense of tranquility, cool, observant and a reflective nature in his own work. He has a penchant for detail, order and restraint. This attention to detail is clearly expressed in his Medusa. His landscapes, streetscapes, seascapes skylines capture light and shadow, shapes and forms, space, depth and distance and vibrant light in a figurative and realistic manner.
