51st Anniversary Autumn Concert and Dinner
Din l-Art Helwa is pleased to announce that the traditional and elegant Autumn Concert and Dinner will this year be held at the Grand Hall of the historic St. John’s Cavalier, Valletta on Friday 11th November. This stately and magnificent edifice is being made available to us for this exclusive event by courtesy and kind permission of H.E. Ing. Umberto Di Capua, Ambassador of the Sovereign Military Hospitaller Order of St. John of Jerusalem, of Rhodes and of Malta, to whom Din l-Art Helwa extends its appreciation and thanks.
The highlight of the evening will be a string performance by the internationally acclaimed Rotterdam Ensemble, comprised of Artistic Director Roberto Beltrán-Zavala, Marina Meerson – First Violin, Nicolai Bernstein – Second Violin, Hara van Amersfoort – Viola, Wijnand Hulst – Cello, Gjorgji Cincievski – Doublebass. They will regale the audience with delightful works by Von Biber, Vivaldi and Shostakovich. This concert is being made possible thanks to the benevolence and generous support of Dr. John Vassallo & Dr. Marianne Noll, both of whom are most valued life members and benefactors of Din l-Art Helwa. Their fine gesture is much appreciated.
The Rotterdam Ensemble is regarded as one of the best chamber orchestras in Europe and has been described by the European specialised press as ‘a superb ensemble’, formed by a passionate group of musicians with unique energy. They are active in some of Europe’s foremost orchestras – the Rotterdam Philharmonic, the Dutch Radio Philharmonic, the Frankfurt Opera Orchestra, the Orchestre de Paris and the Basel Symphony Orchestra. The Rotterdam Ensemble yearly delivers exceptional performances at festivals and concert halls across Europe. Recent performances include concerts at the Kurhaus in Wiesbaden and de Doelen in Rotterdam, as well as appearances at the ISO Festival of Malta and the M4 Culture Festival in Crans Montana, Switzerland.
Director Roberto Beltrán-Zavala is widely regarded by audiences and orchestras as an inspiring, thrilling and powerful musician. The Mexican-Dutch conductor is rapidly earning an international reputation for his impressive, electrifying performances of late romantic and twentieth-century repertoire in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Malta, Romania, Poland, Switzerland and Mexico. Recent highlights include acclaimed performances of musical cornerstones such as Mahler’s First Symphony, Stravinsky’s Symphony in Three Movements, Bartók’s Miraculous Mandarin Suite, as well as important works by prominent twentieth century composers. He has recently been appointed chief conductor of the Orquesta Sinfónica de la Universidad de Guanajuato in Mexico.
Welcome drinks will be served at 7.15 p.m. and the performance will start at 8.00 p.m. After the concert guests will be treated to a sumptuous gourmet dinner served by the competent Osborne Caterers (menu attached). Tickets cost €56.00 per person, all inclusive. Dress Code is Lounge Suit. Those wishing to attend are requested to complete the attached form and send it together with their remittance addressed to Din l-Art Helwa, 133 Melita Street, Valletta, as early as possible. We already know that this event is in very high demand, so please book early to avoid disappointment. Invitations will be issued on a first come first served basis.
